Carpenter's Shelter, dedicated to ending homelessness in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. region through services, education and advocacy

Advocacy & Issues

Carpenter’s Shelter is a regional and nationwide leader in finding solutions to homelessness and creating safe, affordable housing for all.

As a successful nonprofit organization, we have robust programs and services that make us effective advocates for our mission and the children, families and adults we serve. We not only provide meals and a place to sleep but we aim to permanently end homelessness. We are the voice for many seeking safe and affordable housing.

Carpenter’s Shelter upholds its commitment to meet increasing advocacy challenges and opportunities by initiating meetings with government, business, foundation, and civic leaders to:

  • Deepen understanding
  • Preserve funding
  • Build commitment
  • Stimulate actions that help realize our vision

Our Executive Director and Board serve as advocates for our mission of ending and preventing homelessness through services, education and advocacy.  Our Board members often serve as liaisons to government, business, and other stakeholder groups. Dedicated volunteers write letters to elected officials, make one-on-one visits, provide personal testimony to elected officials, and work closely with media.

Take Action:

We work collaboratively with our state and national partners to advance policies and programs that prevent and end homelessness. As we build our advocacy efforts, we encourage you to join our partners’ advocacy updates.
