The volunteers of Carpenter’s Shelter provide integral services and a priceless spirit to ensure that we are always “more than a roof.” We could not continue to keep our doors open and offer our life-changing services without the generous commitment of our 1,000 volunteers.

4 Easy Steps to Volunteer:

  1. Application
Your application will be processed and replied to within one business week with orientation dates. You must RSVP to attend an orientation.
  2. Orientation
Orientations are held at Carpenter’s Shelter and topics include programs, services and current opportunities. Attendance is mandatory prior to volunteering and all volunteers must be over the age of 18.  Orientations are held the second Tuesday of each month.
  3. Background Check
All volunteers serving at Carpenter’s Shelter must have a completed background check on file.

    • Please visit mybackgroundcheck.com to complete your screening.
    • Select Virginia
    • Select Carpenter’s Shelter
    • Identify yourself as an “applicant to volunteer”.
    • Follow the prompts to in-put your information.

The screening costs $8.00 and can be paid for by credit card at the end of the application. Please note that you might incur additional charges if additional background checks are necessary because of prior criminal history.

  4. Sign-up
Each month you will receive @theShelter Newsletter outlining our needs.
