"Put Your Best Foot Forward (PYBFF): A Free Workshop Sponsored by Grant Thornton for Carpenter’s Clients."

This workshop will provide the vital skills, tools, and attire to successfully land and keep a great job. The workshop will provide resume writing, interview preparation and job success skills. A free clothing boutique with gently used professional attire will also be offered. This will be the second year that Grant Thornton will be sponsoring this and hope to target 80-100 low-income members of the Alexandria community.

About The Project:

Last year, approximately 35 members of our community who were homeless or living in assisted housing came to the PYBFF workshop that offered them a chance to believe in themselves again and find a great job, enabling them to achieve self-sufficiency. In addition to interactive, empowering training on all facets of finding and keeping a job, they received a free lunch, heard from an inspirational guest speaker panel, enjoyed a do's and don't fashion show, and shopped in a free clothing boutique featuring gently used business casual and professional attire. Participants and community partners also were given a PYBFF binder full of tools to find a job with gusto and help others do the same.

This year the workshop will be held April 19 , 2008 at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center, 1605 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA. The exact times for the event are still being worked out, but last year it was held from 10am – 3pm. There will be several Spanish speakers available to assist attendees with limited English fluency.
