This is our newest program that completes the center of learning model. We believe that education is the key to self sufficiency. Through this program, we concentrate on client career and education advancements. We offer scholarships and classes that improve our client’s quality of life. We regularly network with other nonprofit partners and schools for resources.
An integral part of the Education Program is the Carpenter’s Education Fund, which strives to improve the quality of life for our clients and their families through scholarships. Since 2005, Carpenter’s Education Fund* has awarded $100,000 in education funds to pay for school tuitions, living stipends, books and computers. Carpenter’s policy is that any client in good standing in any program can apply for an award from the Education Fund.
To date, funds have been awarded to 12 adults, ranging in age from 18 to 63. Five have been granted multiple awards and six awardees have completed their programs, some going on to continue their education at higher institutions.
“First the Education Fund helped me to become a Medical Assistant and now I’m going to be a nurse!”
— Ms. J, an awardee
Current classes coordinated through this program include our ABC life-skill classes, our Kids Street Sense Program and our Mom’s Night Out activities.
